I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.

Ron want out of is way to help, nothing was to much. He was very thorough in what he did Very knowledgeable I would highly recommend Ron and his company He did a fantastic job for me. if you have any problems, he'll do his best to help you out and resolve your problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

Dennis Brown · May 2026 Trustpilot

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Unusual to find such a helpful company in these times, no morons reading scripts, just direct contact with the engineer.

Contacted Solar Tech Support when trying to understand what my Givenergy inverter problem might be and what might be my options. Received good/honest advise which backed up my thoughts.

Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration (their Trustpilot reviews don't lie!). So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.

This company are a rare gem, I had a very unusual problem following a failed firmware upgrade on my GivEnergy kit. I then found out GivEnergy were in administration and had dismissed all their support staff! None of the usual fixes to try and restore my inverter comms would work, and I looked everywhere, forums, GivEnergy youtube support videos - even AI couldn't figure it out. My installer was talking about huge sums for system replacements, and being vague / evasive about if they'd even install replacement GivEnergy inverter. Enter Solar Tech Support, reassuring and knowledgeable from the very start, I've learnt loads about my solar system though the friendly chat while my engineer worked as he diagnosed the problem and figured out a fix procedure that I've not found anywhere else - amazing . If you need solar system repairs - especially if you like me have been left high and dry by GivEnergy, I cannot recommend this company enough. Give them a call.

I sent a message on their website regarding a problem I have on my Givenergy system. Although not supplied by Ronald, I thought it was worth an email. Within the hour on a Saturday, he phoned and we discussed the problem. He logged in remotely and gave excellent advice. I'm too far away for his on-site help but he did diagnose the problem and was happy also to chat through my thoughts about an upcoming solar/battery install I'm planning. Great bloke.... if only he was nearer!

Background

Why GivEnergy is everywhere in Yorkshire

GivEnergy Ltd was a UK-based manufacturer headquartered in Newcastle that entered administration on 9 April 2026. Between 2018 and early 2026, their hybrid inverters and battery storage systems became the dominant brand in the Yorkshire retrofit market — installed by local companies and national chains alike. When the energy crisis hit in 2022–2023, thousands of Yorkshire homeowners added GivEnergy batteries to existing solar systems.

The result: a massive installed base of GivEnergy systems across every part of Yorkshire. Many of the installers who fitted them have since closed down, moved on, or are too busy with new installations to provide aftercare. Homeowners are left with a system they don't fully understand, a portal they can't configure, and manufacturer support that is overwhelmed by volume.

That's where we come in. We're independent GivEnergy specialists based in Leeds. We diagnose, repair, reconfigure, and maintain GivEnergy systems every day — whether the original installer is still in business or not. Remote diagnostics are available nationwide. On-site repair and maintenance covers Yorkshire and surrounding areas.

Common faults

GivEnergy problems we fix across Yorkshire

These are the GivEnergy faults we diagnose most often. Each links to a detailed guide — or book a diagnostic and we'll identify the issue in a single session.

🔋
Battery not charging overnight

The most common GivEnergy fault we see in Yorkshire. Usually caused by eco mode settings, firmware updates resetting charge windows, or an incorrect state of charge target. Almost always fixable remotely.

Diagnostic guide →
☀️
Battery not charging from solar

Solar generating but the battery stays empty. Typically a CT clamp direction issue, an eco mode misconfiguration, or a battery that's been paused and forgotten about. Diagnosed remotely via the portal.

Diagnostic guide →
Battery not discharging

Battery charges fine but won't power the house during peak hours. Often a tariff schedule issue, a minimum SOC set too high, or GivEnergy's energy management system overriding your preferences.

Diagnostic guide →
📡
Portal showing offline

System is probably still working — the WiFi dongle has just lost its connection to your router. Common after router restarts, password changes, or dongle firmware updates. We reconnect it remotely or guide you through the fix.

Diagnostic guide →
🔌
Importing from grid with battery full

Battery shows 100% but the house is pulling from the grid instead. Almost always a CT clamp installed in the wrong direction or eco mode turned off. One of the fastest fixes — usually resolved in the diagnostic session.

Diagnostic guide →
🔧
Click of death

Inverter relay clicking rapidly and failing to connect to the grid. A known hardware fault on some GivEnergy units — requires an on-site repair or inverter replacement. We handle the full process including warranty claims where applicable.

Diagnostic guide →
🔴
CAN communication fault

Battery and inverter can't communicate. Can be a cable issue, a BMS fault, or a firmware mismatch between inverter and battery. Diagnosed remotely via error logs — may require an on-site visit for cable or BMS repair.

Diagnostic guide →
🚨
Status light flashing red

A red flashing status light indicates an active fault condition — inverter isolation failure, grid overvoltage, GFCI fault, or battery under-voltage. Needs diagnosis to determine severity. Some are cleared with a restart; others need hardware attention.

Diagnostic guide →
💾
Firmware update problems

Settings reset after firmware update, battery capacity reduced, SOC readings jumping, or system behaviour changed unexpectedly. GivEnergy firmware updates can alter system behaviour — we audit the configuration and restore correct settings.

Diagnostic guide →
🔦
EPS not working in power cuts

Battery backup should power the house during an outage but doesn't activate. Usually an EPS configuration issue, an incorrect wiring setup, or the EPS function not being enabled at commissioning. May need an on-site check of the switchover wiring.

Diagnostic guide →
⚙️
Settings changing themselves

Charge schedules, eco mode, or export settings reverting to defaults or changing without your input. Often caused by GivEnergy's cloud platform pushing updates, a GivBack programme override, or a firmware update resetting preferences.

Diagnostic guide →
🌤️
Solar not generating

Panels on the roof but zero or very low generation showing. Could be a DC isolator left off, an inverter fault, a string failure, or simply poor weather misinterpreted as a fault. A remote diagnostic compares your output against expected performance for your location.

GivEnergy installer gone bust?

Many GivEnergy systems in Yorkshire were installed by companies that have since closed down. Snug Energy (Doncaster, liquidated December 2025) and All Seasons Energy (Sheffield, liquidated January 2026) both installed significant numbers of GivEnergy systems across the region. If your installer has gone bust, we can take over the system entirely.

Coverage

GivEnergy support across Yorkshire

We're based in Leeds and cover the full region for on-site GivEnergy repairs. Remote diagnostics and configuration support are available nationwide. Here's what we see in each area.

GivEnergy in Barnsley — 20 min from base

Fastest response times for GivEnergy repairs. High volume of GivEnergy battery retrofits on older FiT-era solar systems. Common issue: batteries added to existing string inverter setups via AC coupling, creating configuration challenges that the original installer didn't resolve properly.

Also covers: Dodworth, Penistone, Wombwell, Hoyland, Darton, Royston, Cudworth
GivEnergy in Sheffield

All Seasons Energy installed many GivEnergy systems across Sheffield before entering liquidation in January 2026. We're seeing a wave of orphaned GivEnergy systems here — monitoring locked to the installer account, no aftercare, and configurations that were never optimised for the homeowner's tariff. Steep hillside properties also create shading-related generation issues that affect battery charge cycles.

Also covers: Hillsborough, Ecclesall, Crookes, Dore, Totley, Chapeltown, Stocksbridge
GivEnergy in Leeds

Largest GivEnergy install base in our coverage area. The 2022–2023 energy crisis drove a huge wave of battery installations across Leeds — many by national chains that have since scaled back or closed. GivEnergy All-in-One units and Gen 3 hybrids are common on newer installs across Headingley, Roundhay, and Horsforth. Solarplicity's former customers in Leeds are also discovering GivEnergy systems they inherited from council schemes.

Also covers: Headingley, Horsforth, Roundhay, Morley, Pudsey, Guiseley, Otley, Garforth
GivEnergy in Wakefield

Strong GivEnergy retrofit market — especially around the newer housing estates in Castleford and Pontefract where solar-plus-battery has become standard on new builds. Common issues: charge schedules not aligned to Octopus Flux or Intelligent Go tariffs, and EPS configurations that were never tested after installation.

Also covers: Ossett, Horbury, Normanton, Castleford, Pontefract, Featherstone
GivEnergy in Doncaster

Snug Energy was headquartered in Doncaster and installed significant numbers of GivEnergy systems before their liquidation in December 2025. Many of these are recent installs — less than two years old — with modern GivEnergy hybrid inverters and batteries. The hardware is fine but the systems need monitoring transfer, configuration audit, and a new support relationship.

Also covers: Mexborough, Conisbrough, Thorne, Hatfield, Bentley, Askern, Tickhill
Rotherham

Mix of GivEnergy battery retrofits on older solar systems and new combined solar-plus-battery installations. Common pattern: homeowner adds a GivEnergy battery to an existing Fronius or SMA string inverter but the AC coupling configuration isn't optimised, leading to the battery not charging from solar properly.

Also covers: Rawmarsh, Wath, Maltby, Wickersley, Bramley, Swinton, Kilnhurst
Bradford

Growing GivEnergy install base, especially on the newer suburban developments. Dense terraced housing in central Bradford creates CT clamp placement challenges — we frequently see GivEnergy systems in Bradford importing from grid because the CT clamp is on the wrong cable or facing the wrong direction.

Also covers: Shipley, Bingley, Keighley, Ilkley, Baildon, Queensbury, Thornton
Huddersfield

Steep hillside properties with variable shading profiles — GivEnergy systems here often underperform because the battery charge cycle doesn't account for the reduced generation on shaded panels during winter months. Configuration adjustments to charge windows and SOC targets make a significant difference in these locations.

Also covers: Holmfirth, Meltham, Slaithwaite, Marsden, Mirfield, Dewsbury, Batley
York

Higher proportion of premium GivEnergy installations — All-in-One units and multi-battery setups are more common here than in most of Yorkshire. Conservation area restrictions mean some systems have non-standard configurations. We also see GivEnergy EV charger integration issues in York where the charger and battery compete for the same solar generation.

Also covers: Haxby, Strensall, Bishopthorpe, Copmanthorpe, Poppleton, Stamford Bridge
Harrogate

Affluent area with larger GivEnergy systems — 5kW+ inverters with multiple battery stacks are common. Higher battery uptake and more complex tariff optimisation requirements. Many Harrogate homeowners are on Octopus Flux or Intelligent Go and want their GivEnergy system configured to maximise savings, which requires careful charge schedule and export limit setup.

Also covers: Knaresborough, Ripon, Boroughbridge, Pateley Bridge, Nidderdale
Hull

Growing GivEnergy battery market on the flat-terrain housing stock that gets good solar yield. Many GivEnergy systems in Hull were installed by national chains rather than local companies — and the aftercare has been minimal. Common issues: portal never connected to WiFi, battery never configured for the homeowner's tariff, and EPS never enabled despite being promised.

Also covers: Hessle, Cottingham, Anlaby, Brough, Willerby, Beverley
Scarborough & East Coast

The East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire coast has a distinct GivEnergy profile — retirement properties, holiday homes, and second homes with batteries that sit uncycled for weeks. Monitoring goes offline while properties are empty, batteries develop SOC drift, and coastal salt air corrodes external connections faster than inland. Most installers who fitted these systems no longer travel to the coast for aftercare.

Also covers: Bridlington, Whitby, Filey, Flamborough, Pickering, Malton, Hornsea
Middlesbrough & Teesside

Teesside's GivEnergy install base is almost entirely battery retrofits on existing FiT-era and government-scheme solar systems. The hardware works — the configuration usually doesn't. Charge schedules never aligned to tariffs, eco mode left disabled, CT clamps on the wrong cable. Coastal and estuary properties in Redcar, Saltburn, and Hartlepool face additional salt corrosion on the solar side that reduces generation into the battery.

Also covers: Stockton, Darlington, Redcar, Hartlepool, Yarm, Guisborough, Bishop Auckland

Many GivEnergy problems aren't faults — they're configuration issues. The system is working correctly but the settings aren't right for your tariff, usage pattern, or goals. We optimise GivEnergy systems for maximum savings.

FAQ

GivEnergy repair questions

A free remote diagnostic and identifies most faults without a site visit. On-site repair visits start from £245. Inverter replacement starts £795 (supply and fit). Battery diagnostics and recalibration are quoted after the initial diagnostic. All costs are confirmed in writing before work begins — no call-out fees and no surprises. See full pricing →
In most cases, yes. GivEnergy battery charging faults are usually caused by incorrect settings, firmware issues, or charge schedule misconfiguration — all of which can be diagnosed and often resolved remotely. Common causes include eco mode being disabled, the battery state of charge being set incorrectly, a firmware update resetting charge windows, or a CT clamp reading the wrong direction. A remote diagnostic (£75) identifies the root cause and either fixes it in the session or provides a clear action plan.
No. GivEnergy systems can be repaired and maintained by any qualified solar engineer. You do not need to use the original installer or a GivEnergy-approved installer for diagnostic, repair, or configuration work. If your original installer has closed down, gone bust, or is unresponsive, we can take over the system entirely — including monitoring transfer, warranty support, and ongoing maintenance.
Remote diagnostics are usually available within 24–48 hours of booking. On-site visits across Yorkshire are typically within a week — faster for urgent faults. We are based in Leeds so core coverage areas like Barnsley, Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham, and Wakefield have the shortest response times. Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, York, and Harrogate are all within an hour of our base.
Not necessarily. A GivEnergy system showing offline in the portal or app usually means the WiFi dongle has lost its connection to your router — not that the inverter or battery has failed. The system is often still generating and charging normally, but the data is not being sent to the cloud. Common causes include a router restart, WiFi password change, dongle firmware issue, or the dongle simply losing its WiFi connection. A remote diagnostic can confirm whether the system is working and get the monitoring back online.
Yes. If your GivEnergy inverter or battery has a fault covered by the manufacturer warranty, we handle the entire claim process — fault diagnosis, evidence gathering, liaison with GivEnergy, and coordination of the replacement unit. Pre-administration, GivEnergy offered a 12-year warranty on inverters and batteries. Following the 9 April 2026 administration, no further hardware warranties will be honoured by GivEnergy Ltd. If your original installer has gone bust, you can still claim — the warranty is with GivEnergy, not the installer. Warranty claim support →
The most common GivEnergy faults we diagnose across Yorkshire are: battery not charging overnight (usually a settings or firmware issue), portal showing offline (WiFi dongle disconnection), system importing from grid when it shouldn't be (CT clamp direction or eco mode misconfiguration), battery not discharging during peak hours (charge schedule or tariff settings), and the click of death (inverter relay failure requiring hardware replacement). Most of these are resolved remotely. The click of death and physical inverter faults require an on-site visit.
