Enphase Envoy WiFi Setup — Reconnect to New Router

Changed your router, updated the WiFi password, or switched ISP — and now Enlighten shows your system as offline. The Envoy is still trying to connect to the old network. It needs reconfiguring to connect to the new one. The solar system keeps generating normally while the Envoy is disconnected — only the monitoring data stream is interrupted.

I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.

Ron want out of is way to help, nothing was to much. He was very thorough in what he did Very knowledgeable I would highly recommend Ron and his company He did a fantastic job for me. if you have any problems, he'll do his best to help you out and resolve your problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

Dennis Brown · May 2026 Trustpilot

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Unusual to find such a helpful company in these times, no morons reading scripts, just direct contact with the engineer.

Contacted Solar Tech Support when trying to understand what my Givenergy inverter problem might be and what might be my options. Received good/honest advise which backed up my thoughts.

Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration (their Trustpilot reviews don't lie!). So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.

This company are a rare gem, I had a very unusual problem following a failed firmware upgrade on my GivEnergy kit. I then found out GivEnergy were in administration and had dismissed all their support staff! None of the usual fixes to try and restore my inverter comms would work, and I looked everywhere, forums, GivEnergy youtube support videos - even AI couldn't figure it out. My installer was talking about huge sums for system replacements, and being vague / evasive about if they'd even install replacement GivEnergy inverter. Enter Solar Tech Support, reassuring and knowledgeable from the very start, I've learnt loads about my solar system though the friendly chat while my engineer worked as he diagnosed the problem and figured out a fix procedure that I've not found anywhere else - amazing . If you need solar system repairs - especially if you like me have been left high and dry by GivEnergy, I cannot recommend this company enough. Give them a call.

I sent a message on their website regarding a problem I have on my Givenergy system. Although not supplied by Ronald, I thought it was worth an email. Within the hour on a Saturday, he phoned and we discussed the problem. He logged in remotely and gave excellent advice. I'm too far away for his on-site help but he did diagnose the problem and was happy also to chat through my thoughts about an upcoming solar/battery install I'm planning. Great bloke.... if only he was nearer!

What you need before starting
New WiFi password — the password for your current router
Installer Toolkit app — free from App Store / Google Play
Physical access to Envoy — to press the AP mode button
Enphase account — or create one at enlighten.enphaseenergy.com
Setup

6-step Envoy WiFi reconnection

Follow these steps to reconnect your Enphase Envoy to a new WiFi network after a router change, ISP switch, or password update.

1

Confirm the Envoy has lost its WiFi connection

Check the Envoy LED indicators. The network LED should be solid green when connected to the internet. If it is off, flashing, or amber, the Envoy has no internet connection.

Also check Enlighten — if the system shows as offline and the last data update was around the time you changed your router, the Envoy is still trying to connect to the old network. The solar system continues generating normally while the Envoy is disconnected.

2

Download the Enphase Installer Toolkit app

The Installer Toolkit app is the recommended method for reconfiguring Envoy WiFi. Download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store — search for "Enphase Installer Toolkit".

You need an Enphase account to log in. If you do not have one, create one using the email address associated with your Enlighten system. The app connects directly to the Envoy over its local AP mode network, so your phone does not need to be on your home WiFi to use it.

3

Put the Envoy into AP mode and connect your phone

Press the AP mode button on the Envoy — a small recessed button, usually on the side or bottom of the unit. Press and hold for about one second. The AP mode LED will begin flashing, indicating the Envoy is broadcasting its own WiFi network.

On your phone, go to WiFi settings and look for a network named ENVOY_ followed by the serial number. Connect to this network.

Your phone may warn that there is no internet — this is expected. You are connecting directly to the Envoy, not to the internet. Do not dismiss or switch back to your home WiFi until the setup is complete.

4

Configure the new WiFi network via the Installer Toolkit app

Open the Installer Toolkit app while connected to the Envoy AP network. The app should detect the Envoy automatically. Navigate to the network configuration section.

Select your new home WiFi network from the list of available networks. Enter the WiFi password carefully — the most common cause of failed reconnection is a mistyped password. Passwords are case-sensitive.

The Envoy will attempt to connect to your new router. If the connection succeeds, the network LED will turn solid green within a few minutes. If it fails, re-enter the password and try again.

5

Use ethernet as a fallback if WiFi will not connect

If the Envoy cannot connect to your WiFi — weak signal, incompatible settings, or repeated failures — connect it directly to your router with an ethernet cable. The Envoy has an ethernet port on the underside or rear panel.

Plug one end into the Envoy and the other into a spare LAN port on your router. The Envoy detects the wired connection automatically and prioritises it over WiFi. Ethernet is more reliable and eliminates intermittent monitoring gaps.

If the Envoy is too far from the router for a direct cable, a powerline ethernet adapter can bridge the distance using your home's electrical wiring. These cost around £30–40 and provide a permanent, reliable connection.

6

Verify Enlighten is receiving data again

After reconnecting, wait 15 to 30 minutes, then check Enlighten. The system should show as online and new production data should begin appearing. If the Envoy was offline for less than seven days, it will automatically backfill the missing data from its local buffer.

If Enlighten still shows no data after 30 minutes, check the Envoy network LED. Solid green means the connection is established and Enlighten may just need time to update. If the LED is not green, the WiFi connection was not established — repeat the setup process or switch to ethernet.

Why the Envoy does not reconnect automatically after a router change

When you replace your router or change your WiFi password, the Envoy loses its connection and cannot automatically discover the new network. Unlike a phone or laptop that prompts you to enter the new password, the Envoy has no screen and no way to ask. It continues trying to connect to the old network indefinitely until someone manually reconfigures it.

This is by far the most common reason for Enphase systems going offline in the UK. ISPs regularly send new routers when customers upgrade their broadband package, and the new router has a different network name and password. The homeowner sets up their phones and laptops on the new network but forgets the Envoy — because it is tucked away in a cupboard and the solar system keeps working regardless.

The system continues generating and the house continues using the solar power. The only thing that stops is the data upload to Enlighten. If you notice within seven days, the Envoy's local buffer will backfill the missing data when reconnected. After seven days, the data gap is permanent. For this reason, it is worth reconnecting the Envoy as soon as possible after any router change — and for long-term reliability, ethernet is always preferable to WiFi.

Common WiFi setup issues and solutions

AP network not visible
Cannot see the ENVOY_ network on your phone

Press and hold the AP mode button again for one second. Wait 30 seconds for the network to appear. If still not visible, try from a different phone. Some older Envoy models broadcast on 2.4GHz only — if your phone is set to 5GHz preferred, it may not see the network.

Password rejected
Envoy will not accept the WiFi password

Double-check the password is correct — case-sensitive, no trailing spaces. If the router uses WPA3, the Envoy may not be compatible — switch the router to WPA2 or WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode. Some mesh routers require the 2.4GHz band to be enabled separately.

Connects then drops
LED goes green briefly then returns to amber or off

WiFi signal at the Envoy location is too weak to maintain a stable connection. Move the router closer, use a WiFi extender, or switch to ethernet. See our monitoring gap guide for more on intermittent connectivity.

5GHz not supported
Envoy only sees 2.4GHz networks

Most Envoy models only support 2.4GHz WiFi. If your router broadcasts separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, select the 2.4GHz network. If the router combines both bands under one name, the Envoy should connect to the 2.4GHz band automatically.

Installer Toolkit login
Cannot log into the Installer Toolkit app

You need an Enphase account. If your installer set up the system under their account, you may need to create your own at enlighten.enphaseenergy.com. Some features require "homeowner" role access. If you are locked out, STS can help recover or transfer Enlighten access.

FAQ

Envoy WiFi setup — common questions

Download the Enphase Installer Toolkit app. Press the AP mode button on the Envoy to broadcast its local WiFi network. Connect your phone to the ENVOY_ network. Open the app, navigate to network settings, select your new home WiFi, and enter the password. The Envoy will connect to your new router and resume uploading to Enlighten. If WiFi fails, connect the Envoy to your router with an ethernet cable instead.
AP mode (Access Point mode) is when the Envoy broadcasts its own temporary WiFi network so you can connect to it directly from your phone. You use AP mode to configure the Envoy's network settings — telling it which WiFi to connect to and providing the password. Activate it by pressing and holding the AP button for about one second. The AP network name is ENVOY_ followed by the serial number.
Yes — the Envoy has an ethernet port and will automatically prioritise a wired connection over WiFi. Ethernet is more reliable and eliminates monitoring gaps caused by signal dropouts. Connect an ethernet cable from the Envoy to a spare LAN port on your router. If the Envoy is too far away, use a powerline ethernet adapter to bridge the distance over your home's electrical wiring. These cost around £30–40 and provide a permanent, reliable connection.
Repeated disconnections are usually caused by weak WiFi signal at the Envoy location. The Envoy is often installed in a garage, loft, or utility cupboard where the signal is marginal. Other causes include router firmware updates that change settings, interference from neighbouring networks, or the router dropping idle devices. Switching to ethernet permanently resolves WiFi reliability issues.
Enlighten typically shows new data within 15 to 30 minutes of the Envoy reconnecting. If the Envoy was offline for less than seven days, it also backfills missing production data from its local buffer — this can take a few hours for a full week. Data beyond seven days is permanently lost. If Enlighten still shows nothing after 30 minutes, check the Envoy network LED is solid green.
