I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

Ron want out of is way to help, nothing was to much. He was very thorough in what he did Very knowledgeable I would highly recommend Ron and his company He did a fantastic job for me. if you have any problems, he'll do his best to help you out and resolve your problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

Dennis Brown · May 2026 Trustpilot

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Unusual to find such a helpful company in these times, no morons reading scripts, just direct contact with the engineer.

Contacted Solar Tech Support when trying to understand what my Givenergy inverter problem might be and what might be my options. Received good/honest advise which backed up my thoughts.

Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration (their Trustpilot reviews don't lie!). So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.

This company are a rare gem, I had a very unusual problem following a failed firmware upgrade on my GivEnergy kit. I then found out GivEnergy were in administration and had dismissed all their support staff! None of the usual fixes to try and restore my inverter comms would work, and I looked everywhere, forums, GivEnergy youtube support videos - even AI couldn't figure it out. My installer was talking about huge sums for system replacements, and being vague / evasive about if they'd even install replacement GivEnergy inverter. Enter Solar Tech Support, reassuring and knowledgeable from the very start, I've learnt loads about my solar system though the friendly chat while my engineer worked as he diagnosed the problem and figured out a fix procedure that I've not found anywhere else - amazing . If you need solar system repairs - especially if you like me have been left high and dry by GivEnergy, I cannot recommend this company enough. Give them a call.

I sent a message on their website regarding a problem I have on my Givenergy system. Although not supplied by Ronald, I thought it was worth an email. Within the hour on a Saturday, he phoned and we discussed the problem. He logged in remotely and gave excellent advice. I'm too far away for his on-site help but he did diagnose the problem and was happy also to chat through my thoughts about an upcoming solar/battery install I'm planning. Great bloke.... if only he was nearer!

Overview

What is the GivEnergy AECC dongle?

The AECC (Advanced Energy Communication Controller) is GivEnergy's newer communication module, replacing the original WiFi dongle on Gen 4 inverters and fitted to some AIO 2 and Gateway 2 units. It has a different interface, different default credentials, and does not use DIP switches.

1
Different interface address and protocol

Unlike the older WiFi dongle (which uses http://10.10.100.254), the AECC dongle uses https://10.10.100.254/web/info — note the HTTPS and the /web/info path. Navigating to plain HTTP or the root address will not load the interface correctly.

2
Different default password

The AECC dongle's default login is username admin, password 123456. The older WiFi dongle uses admin/admin. Using the wrong credentials is the most common reason people can't access the AECC interface after first trying the older dongle's details.

3
No DIP switches required

The AECC dongle does not have DIP switches. All configuration is done through the web interface. Firmware updates for the AECC are handled differently — check the GivEnergy knowledge base for AECC-specific firmware guidance.

4
Fitted to newer GivEnergy inverter models

The AECC is standard on Gen 4 inverters and is also found on some AIO 2 and Gateway 2 units. If you're not sure which dongle you have, check the model label on the dongle itself — AECC units will show the AECC designation.

Configuration

Connectivity options and priority

The AECC dongle supports multiple connectivity methods with a defined priority hierarchy. The dongle automatically uses the highest-priority connection available.

1.

LAN (Ethernet)

Primary method when a cable is physically plugged in. Provides the most reliable and fastest connection to your home network and the GivEnergy portal.

→ Use for permanent installations
2.

WiFi (2.4 GHz)

Secondary fallback when LAN is not available. Requires 2.4 GHz network (5 GHz not supported). Configured in STA Settings within the AECC interface.

→ Main backup method
3.

4G Cellular

Emergency backup for remote diagnostics and troubleshooting. Not intended for routine operation. Requires SIM card and available signal at the installation site.

→ Remote diagnostics only
4.

Bluetooth

Installer app commissioning only. Used during initial setup and configuration by GivEnergy engineers and certified installers. Not used for ongoing operation.

→ Setup and commissioning
Step 1
Interface access

Accessing the AECC local interface

The AECC dongle has a local web interface accessible via its WiFi hotspot. Here's how to reach it.

1
Connect to the AECC hotspot

On your phone or laptop, connect to the AECC dongle's WiFi hotspot. The SSID is printed on the dongle label. Once connected, your device will show no internet access — this is expected while connected to the dongle hotspot.

2
Navigate to https://10.10.100.254/web/info

Open a browser and go to https://10.10.100.254/web/info. You may see a browser security warning about the certificate — this is expected for a local device and safe to proceed past. Click "Advanced" and then "Proceed" (or equivalent in your browser).

3
Log in with admin / 123456

Enter username admin and password 123456. These are the factory default credentials for the AECC dongle. If these don't work, the password may have been changed by a previous engineer — a factory reset will restore the defaults.

Quick reference:
URL: https://10.10.100.254/web/info
Username: admin
Password: 123456
Step 2
WiFi configuration

Configuring STA and AP settings

The AECC has two separate WiFi configuration sections: STA (Station) for connecting to your home router, and AP (Access Point) for the dongle's own hotspot. Both can operate simultaneously.

STA Settings — connecting to your home WiFi

In the AECC interface, navigate to STA Settings (Station mode). This section controls how the dongle connects to your home WiFi router.

1

Enter your home WiFi SSID (network name) and password exactly. The SSID and password are case-sensitive.

2

Confirm the network is 2.4 GHz. The AECC dongle does not support 5 GHz networks. If your router broadcasts a combined SSID, use a dedicated 2.4 GHz SSID for reliable operation.

3

Click Save and wait for the dongle to connect. The status indicator will change once a successful connection is established. Allow up to 2 minutes.

AP Settings — configuring the dongle hotspot

Navigate to AP Settings to configure the dongle's own WiFi hotspot. You may need to change the AP settings if you want a custom hotspot name or password, or after a factory reset if you need to restore access.

The hotspot SSID and password are separate from the home WiFi credentials. Changing the AP settings does not affect the STA (home WiFi) connection.

Note: If you change the AP password, you will need to reconnect your phone to the dongle hotspot using the new password before you can access the interface again.

Verifying portal connectivity

After saving STA settings, allow 5–10 minutes and then log into givenergy.cloud. The inverter should show as online with live data updating. If it remains offline:

1

Check the SSID and password are correct and the network is 2.4 GHz.

2

Check the RSSI signal strength in the AECC interface — aim for 70% or above.

3

Check your router isn't blocking outbound connections on port 7654.

Factory reset
Reset button

AECC reset button — location by inverter model

The reset button location on the AECC dongle varies depending on which GivEnergy inverter model it is fitted to. Hold the button for 10 seconds to perform a factory reset — this clears WiFi credentials and restores default login details.

🏠

Gateway 2

The reset button on the AECC dongle fitted to the Gateway 2 is located at the top centre of the dongle PCB.

Hold for 10 seconds until the LED flashes to confirm reset.
🔋

AIO 2

On the AIO 2 (All-in-One 2), the AECC reset button is at the top right near the DC connections on the dongle.

Check the DC connection area at the top right of the dongle for the small recessed button.

Gen 4

On the Gen 4 inverter, the AECC reset button is at the bottom centre of the dongle module.

Look at the bottom of the dongle — the reset button may require a pin or paperclip to press.
After a factory reset: Hold the reset button for 10 seconds until the LED flashes. The dongle will return to default credentials (admin / 123456) and will broadcast its default hotspot SSID. Reconnect to the hotspot, navigate to https://10.10.100.254/web/info, log in, and re-enter your home WiFi credentials in STA Settings.
Troubleshooting
Common issues

AECC dongle problems and fixes

The AECC is generally more reliable than the older dongle, but these issues do come up in the field.

Can't access https://10.10.100.254/web/info

If the page won't load, confirm you are connected to the AECC hotspot and not your home WiFi. Many phones switch away from networks with no internet connectivity automatically — disable mobile data and check WiFi settings. Also confirm you are using HTTPS and including the /web/info path in the URL.

If your browser shows a security warning about the certificate, click "Advanced" and proceed — the certificate warning is expected for a local device interface.

Wrong password — admin/admin doesn't work on the AECC

The AECC dongle uses admin / 123456 as its factory default — not admin/admin like the older WiFi dongle. If neither works, the password has been changed. Factory reset the dongle (10-second button hold) to restore the default credentials.

AECC connected to WiFi but GivEnergy portal shows offline

If the AECC shows as connected in STA Settings but the portal remains offline, check that outbound traffic on port 7654 is not being blocked by your router. Also confirm the RSSI is 70% or above — a weak signal can cause the portal connection to drop even when the WiFi association appears connected.

Try power-cycling the dongle: remove it from the inverter, wait 30 seconds, and reinsert. If the inverter has gone into a fault state, check the hardware diagnostics guide before continuing.

AECC keeps losing WiFi connection intermittently

Intermittent drops are almost always a signal strength issue. Check the RSSI in the AECC interface — below 70% is marginal. The inverter is typically in a utility cupboard or garage where walls and interference reduce signal. A WiFi extender positioned nearby or a powerline adapter with a WiFi point at the inverter location will provide stable connectivity.

Also confirm the AECC is connecting to 2.4 GHz — 5 GHz has shorter range and is not supported by the dongle hardware.

When to get professional help with your AECC

If the AECC hotspot isn't visible and a factory reset hasn't restored it, if the portal has been offline for more than 24 hours despite correct WiFi credentials, or if you're uncertain about the configuration on a newly installed Gen 4 or AIO 2 — we can diagnose and configure AECC dongles remotely in most cases.

FAQ

GivEnergy AECC dongle questions

The GivEnergy AECC dongle's local interface is at https://10.10.100.254/web/info. This is different from the older WiFi dongle (http://10.10.100.254). You must be connected to the AECC's WiFi hotspot to access this address. Your browser may show a certificate warning — this is normal and safe to proceed past by clicking "Advanced" then "Proceed".
The factory default login for the GivEnergy AECC dongle is username admin, password 123456. This is different from the older WiFi dongle which uses admin/admin. If these credentials don't work, the password has been changed — perform a factory reset (hold reset button 15 seconds) to restore the defaults.
The reset button location varies by inverter model. On the Gateway 2, it is at the top centre of the dongle. On the AIO 2, it is at the top right near the DC connections. On the Gen 4, it is at the bottom centre. Hold the button for 10 seconds to factory reset — this clears WiFi credentials and restores admin/123456 as the login.
STA Settings (Station mode) controls how the AECC dongle connects to your home WiFi router — this is where you enter your home SSID and password. AP Settings (Access Point mode) controls the dongle's own WiFi hotspot, including its SSID and password. Both can run simultaneously — the dongle connects to your router (STA) while also broadcasting its own hotspot (AP) for local access.
No. The AECC dongle does not use DIP switches for standard WiFi configuration. DIP switches are a feature of the older WiFi dongle and are only needed for that dongle's firmware update process. All AECC configuration is done through the web interface at https://10.10.100.254/web/info.
