I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.

Ron want out of is way to help, nothing was to much. He was very thorough in what he did Very knowledgeable I would highly recommend Ron and his company He did a fantastic job for me. if you have any problems, he'll do his best to help you out and resolve your problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

Dennis Brown · May 2026 Trustpilot

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Contacted Ron with a problem and he sorted it out quickly with no problems at all. Very knowledgeable on anything solar/ batteries. I would recommend him to anyone

I've spoken to Ron a couple of times with issues with my Givenergy installation. Such a friendly knowledge guy very highly recommended. Thank you very much for resolving my issues

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Unusual to find such a helpful company in these times, no morons reading scripts, just direct contact with the engineer.

Contacted Solar Tech Support when trying to understand what my Givenergy inverter problem might be and what might be my options. Received good/honest advise which backed up my thoughts.

Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration (their Trustpilot reviews don't lie!). So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.

This company are a rare gem, I had a very unusual problem following a failed firmware upgrade on my GivEnergy kit. I then found out GivEnergy were in administration and had dismissed all their support staff! None of the usual fixes to try and restore my inverter comms would work, and I looked everywhere, forums, GivEnergy youtube support videos - even AI couldn't figure it out. My installer was talking about huge sums for system replacements, and being vague / evasive about if they'd even install replacement GivEnergy inverter. Enter Solar Tech Support, reassuring and knowledgeable from the very start, I've learnt loads about my solar system though the friendly chat while my engineer worked as he diagnosed the problem and figured out a fix procedure that I've not found anywhere else - amazing . If you need solar system repairs - especially if you like me have been left high and dry by GivEnergy, I cannot recommend this company enough. Give them a call.

I sent a message on their website regarding a problem I have on my Givenergy system. Although not supplied by Ronald, I thought it was worth an email. Within the hour on a Saturday, he phoned and we discussed the problem. He logged in remotely and gave excellent advice. I'm too far away for his on-site help but he did diagnose the problem and was happy also to chat through my thoughts about an upcoming solar/battery install I'm planning. Great bloke.... if only he was nearer!

Quote review pricing

Single quote review
from £75

One installer quote, full written screen + trade-pricing benchmark. Best when you've been pitched by one firm and want a second opinion before committing.

Multi-quote comparison
from £145

2–3 quotes side-by-side with a written analysis — equipment differences, pricing benchmarks, and a clear recommendation on which is technically strongest. Best value if you've done your tendering.

Pair with independent design (upstream)
from £245

If you haven't tendered yet, an independent design (from £245) turns three quotes into a directly-comparable like-for-like — making the sense check much sharper.

What we screen for
Inflated savings projections

Models that quietly assume you'll buy an EV and a heat pump, doubling your electricity demand in the ROI calculation. We cross-check the savings figure against the kWh number on your actual annual electricity bill.

Inflated export rates

Quotes that model your exported solar at 20–30p/kWh because that's the headline of one tariff. Real-world SEG export is typically 8–15p depending on tariff and contract length. The savings claim should reflect the rate you'll actually receive.

Missing equipment SKUs

A quote that says "premium 450W panel" or "GivEnergy hybrid inverter" with no model number is a quote that can be silently downgraded between contract and install. We flag every line item that doesn't name the specific component.

DC/AC mismatch + sizing flaws

UK installs typically run a DC/AC ratio of 1.15–1.30:1. Quotes above 1.40 silently cap your output on sunny days; quotes at exactly 1:1 are leaving generation on the table. We check the maths.

Optimiser misjudgement

Optimisers and microinverters are right for some roofs and wrong for others. Quotes that include optimisers on a south-facing unshaded roof are upselling. Quotes that skip optimisers on a partially-shaded array are under-spec. The reasoning should be in the quote.

High-pressure + finance traps

Discounts that materialise only if you sign today, finance products with double-digit APRs hidden behind "monthly from £X" framing, rent-a-roof clauses that bury 20-year lease obligations in optional small print. We pull all of this into the report.

How it works — 5 steps

1
Send us the quote

Email the installer quote PDF to us, along with a recent electricity bill (so we can pressure-test the ROI claim against your real usage) and a few sentences about what you're trying to achieve.

2
Free 15-minute chat

We call you back, walk through the quote at a high level, flag anything we can see immediately, and confirm whether the paid deep-dive is going to surface anything useful. No obligation — if the quote looks fair, we'll tell you on the call and let you go.

3
Paid deep-dive (optional)

from £75 for a single quote or from £145 for multi-quote comparison. We go line-by-line through equipment SKUs, sizing logic, ROI claims, finance terms, and total pricing benchmarked against trade hardware costs.

4
Written report

Typically 3–5 pages per quote. Red-flag list with severity rating, equipment-spec verification, pricing comparison, ROI sanity check, finance/small-print summary, and recommended next-step questions for the installer. Delivered within 3 working days.

5
Follow-up if you want

Free 10-minute follow-up call after you've read the report. If the report turns up enough that you want to renegotiate, you go back to the installer armed; if not, you proceed with confidence. Either way, your decision is now defensible.

FAQ

Solar quote sense check — frequently asked questions

The big patterns we screen for: inflated savings projections (modelling you as if you already have an EV and a heat pump when you don't), inflated export-rate assumptions (using 20–30p/kWh when SEG reality is 8–15p), missing equipment SKUs ("GivEnergy hybrid inverter" with no model number), undersized inverter for the array (DC/AC ratio above 1.4 silently caps your output), missing optimisers on a roof that needs them, unnecessary optimisers on a roof that doesn't, monitoring listed as an optional add-on (it shouldn't be), scaffolding hidden in the small print, finance APR over 12%, exit fees buried in a rent-a-roof clause, and discounts that materialise only if you sign today.
You email us the installer's quote PDF. We have a free 15-minute chat where you tell us what matters to you — bill cut, EV charging, off-grid resilience, FIT replacement, whatever. For the paid sense check (from £75 per quote, from £145 for 2–3 quotes side-by-side), we go through it line-by-line: equipment SKUs verified, sizing logic checked, ROI assumptions tested against your actual electricity bill, and total price benchmarked against our knowledge of trade prices and reasonable installer margins. You get a written report within 3 working days.
We know what installers pay wholesale for the major inverter and battery brands — GivEnergy, Sunsynk, Fox ESS, SolarEdge, Tesla Powerwall, Pylontech, BYD, the panel manufacturers. We don't share trade-confidential pricing publicly, but we use it as the reference against which your quote's hardware cost is benchmarked. A reasonable installer margin on hardware is 15–25%; quotes pricing hardware at 50%+ markup get flagged in the report.
No. We don't take installer referral commissions and we don't want to. The sense check tells you whether each quote is technically sound and fairly priced — not who you should buy from. If two of your three quotes pass the screen, you choose between them on the things only you can weigh: aftercare reputation, gut feel from the salesperson, lead time, warranty terms, finance fit. We're engineering, not sales matchmaking.
Useful data. If the installer can explain why your roof genuinely needs the spec they've proposed — and the reasoning holds up — great. If they refuse to engage with the technical points, or react defensively, you've learned something about how they'll behave if there's a snag later. Either way, you're no worse off than before the sense check, and probably better armed for whatever happens next.
On average, in the quotes we screen, we find 8–15% of headline price that's either over-priced hardware, unnecessary specifications, or misrepresented savings inflating the ROI claim. On a £10,000 system that's £800–£1,500. The £75 sense-check fee pays for itself many times over even when the quote is broadly fair — and when it isn't, the savings are much bigger. We also catch under-spec that would have cost you years of underperformance.
Both options work, but they answer different questions. Before quotes — get an independent design first (£245), tender that to installers, and the sense check becomes much faster because there's a written spec to compare against. After quotes — send us whatever you've got and we screen each one against industry benchmarks and your own usage profile. Either order produces a defensible buying decision.
Rough benchmarks for a standard installation (May 2026 prices, VAT-free since 2022): 3–4 kWp solar only — £4,500–£7,000; 4–5 kWp solar + 5 kWh battery — £8,000–£11,000; 5–6 kWp solar + 10 kWh battery — £10,500–£14,500; complex roofs (multiple pitches, optimisers, three-phase) add 10–20%. Quotes outside these bands aren't automatically wrong — there are legitimate reasons for premium equipment, complex installs, or unusual sites — but the sense check explains why a quote sits where it does.
