I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.
After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.
I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration (their Trustpilot reviews don't lie!). So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.
This company are a rare gem, I had a very unusual problem following a failed firmware upgrade on my GivEnergy kit. I then found out GivEnergy were in administration and had dismissed all their support staff! None of the usual fixes to try and restore my inverter comms would work, and I looked everywhere, forums, GivEnergy youtube support videos - even AI couldn't figure it out. My installer was talking about huge sums for system replacements, and being vague / evasive about if they'd even install replacement GivEnergy inverter. Enter Solar Tech Support, reassuring and knowledgeable from the very start, I've learnt loads about my solar system though the friendly chat while my engineer worked as he diagnosed the problem and figured out a fix procedure that I've not found anywhere else - amazing . If you need solar system repairs - especially if you like me have been left high and dry by GivEnergy, I cannot recommend this company enough. Give them a call.

Within the hour on a Saturday, he phoned and we discussed the problem. He logged in remotely and gave excellent advice. I'm too far away for his on-site help but he did diagnose the problem and was happy also to chat through my thoughts about an upcoming solar/battery install I'm planning. Great bloke.... if only he was nearer!

What happened to Solarplicity
Solarplicity Energy Limited started in 2012 as a solar panel installation company. They expanded into energy supply by acquiring LoCO2 Energy in 2017, becoming a combined energy supplier and solar installer — one of few companies offering both. They launched the Community Energy Scheme in 2018, installing solar panels on thousands of council homes in partnership with local authorities. At their peak, they supplied energy to over 7,500 domestic and 500 business customers while continuing to install solar panels nationally.

Solarplicity began as a solar panel installation company, installing systems across the UK.
Expanded into energy supply by acquiring and rebranding LoCO2 Energy, becoming a combined solar installer and energy supplier.
Partnership with local councils to install solar panels on council homes. Thousands of installations completed, primarily in Stoke-on-Trent and other areas.
Ofgem revoked Solarplicity's energy supply licence. Administrators appointed on 19 August 2019. EDF Energy appointed as supplier of last resort for domestic customers. Over 7,500 domestic and 500 business energy customers affected.
Multiple administrator progress reports filed. Registered office moved to Causeway House, 1 Dane Street, Bishop's Stortford, CM23 3BT.
Administration ended August 2023. Final Gazette notice published. Company fully dissolved 24 November 2023.
The company is fully dissolved — but your system still works. Solarplicity's dissolution means there is no company to contact, no warranty to claim against, and no support line. But the solar panels on your roof are independent hardware. They continue to generate electricity regardless of what happened to the company that installed them. If your system is underperforming or you've lost monitoring access, an independent engineer can diagnose and fix the issue.
What Solarplicity's closure means for your solar system
Solarplicity was unusual because they were both your energy supplier and your installer. Their closure affected both sides — but the impact on your solar system is what matters long-term.
Installer workmanship warranty — Solarplicity can no longer honour this. However, if your installation came with an insurance-backed guarantee (IBG), that cover is designed to survive installer closure. IBGs are typically 2, 5, or 10 years depending on the level purchased — check your paperwork for a certificate. Depending on when your system was installed, you may still be within the IBG period.
Aftercare and support — gone. No one to call for system queries, monitoring help, or configuration changes.
Monitoring access — may be locked. If Solarplicity registered your inverter under their company account, the login has died with the business.
Energy supply relationship — ended in August 2019. Your energy supply was transferred to a new supplier by Ofgem. This has no effect on your solar panels.
Insurance-backed guarantee (IBG) — if your installation came with one, this is specifically designed to survive installer closure. Check your installation paperwork for an IBG certificate. If the IBG period hasn't expired, you can make a claim for workmanship faults.
Manufacturer warranties — fully valid. Your inverter and panels each have separate manufacturer warranties that are independent of the installer. Claim directly with the manufacturer using the serial number.
Your generation data — safe on the manufacturer's servers. Monitoring data is not lost when the installer account closes — it just needs to be transferred to your own account.
MCS registration — permanent. If Solarplicity registered your installation with MCS, that record is independent and searchable at mcscertified.com.
Feed-in Tariff (FiT) — if your system was registered for the FiT before March 2019, your payments continue for the full 20-year term regardless of the installer's status. The FiT is between you and your energy supplier, not your installer.
Installed through the Community Energy Scheme?
Solarplicity installed solar panels on thousands of council homes through the Community Energy Scheme (CES), working in partnership with local councils. If your system was installed through this programme, the situation is slightly different from a standard Solarplicity installation.
The Community Energy Scheme was a partnership between Solarplicity and your local council. Even though Solarplicity is dissolved, your council may have ongoing obligations or alternative arrangements in place for maintenance and support. Contact your council's housing department to ask about the current status of your installation and what support is available.
CES installations typically involved long-term contracts for the solar panels. The terms of your contract, including maintenance obligations and exit options, depend on the specific arrangement with your council. Check your original paperwork or contact the council for a copy of the current terms.
Regardless of the contractual situation, the physical solar panels on your roof work independently. If they're generating electricity, they'll continue to do so. If they've developed a fault — the inverter has stopped, generation has dropped, or you've got an error light — an independent engineer can diagnose and fix the problem whether or not the CES arrangement is still active.
Five steps to recover your Solarplicity system
Work through these in order. If your installation was recent enough to still be within an IBG period, start with step one. If it's been several years, the hardware assessment at step two is your priority.
Check your installation paperwork for an insurance-backed guarantee (IBG) certificate. If you have one and it hasn't expired, this is your route for workmanship faults — IBGs are specifically designed to cover situations where the installer has ceased trading. IBGs are typically 2, 5, or 10 years depending on the level purchased. If you paid by credit card and the installation was within the last 6 years, a Section 75 claim may also be an option.
Before spending money on anything, find out what state the system is actually in. A remote diagnostic (£75) gives you a structured assessment: is the system generating, are there faults, what's the monitoring status, and what needs attention. This becomes your action plan.
Solarplicity installations — particularly Community Energy Scheme systems — were often registered under Solarplicity's bulk installer accounts. These have been inactive since 2019. You'll need the inverter serial number and proof of address to reclaim the account. Solarplicity's rapid expansion meant documentation handover was inconsistent. Many customers never received proper MCS certificates or DNO notifications. Search mcscertified.com for your MCS certificate using your postcode. DNO notifications can be confirmed with your local Distribution Network Operator. Your Solarplicity system has been without professional oversight since 2019 — that's over six years of potential degradation, firmware drift, and unchecked performance loss. An independent annual maintenance visit establishes a baseline, catches accumulated issues, and gets the system back to full performance. From £195 per year.
