The cloud has closed · Your hardware hasn't

The GivEnergy cloud is gone. Your inverter still works.

GivEnergy Software Ltd has gone into administration. The portal and app no longer connect. The cloud is closed for good. Your hardware does not care — it runs on local firmware, charges from solar, discharges to your house, runs EPS on a power cut, all with zero internet. Sentinel is the free local-monitoring app we built for exactly this moment. Install it, get monitoring and scheduling back in fifteen minutes, and an STS engineer is one click away if anything breaks.
  • Local-first — no cloud, ever
  • Free, forever — no subscription
  • STS engineer over the same modbus path
Replace the cloud, keep the hardware

Sentinel runs on your home network and talks to your GivEnergy inverter directly over modbus. Free. No subscription. No GivEnergy account required. STS engineers connect through the same path for diagnostics.

Install Sentinel — freeTalk to an engineer
Works with every GivEnergy inverter
Survives the entire cloud shutdown
STS support over the same modbus path

I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.

Ron want out of is way to help, nothing was to much. He was very thorough in what he did Very knowledgeable I would highly recommend Ron and his company He did a fantastic job for me. if you have any problems, he'll do his best to help you out and resolve your problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

Dennis Brown · May 2026 Trustpilot

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Unusual to find such a helpful company in these times, no morons reading scripts, just direct contact with the engineer.

Contacted Solar Tech Support when trying to understand what my Givenergy inverter problem might be and what might be my options. Received good/honest advise which backed up my thoughts.

Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration (their Trustpilot reviews don't lie!). So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.

This company are a rare gem, I had a very unusual problem following a failed firmware upgrade on my GivEnergy kit. I then found out GivEnergy were in administration and had dismissed all their support staff! None of the usual fixes to try and restore my inverter comms would work, and I looked everywhere, forums, GivEnergy youtube support videos - even AI couldn't figure it out. My installer was talking about huge sums for system replacements, and being vague / evasive about if they'd even install replacement GivEnergy inverter. Enter Solar Tech Support, reassuring and knowledgeable from the very start, I've learnt loads about my solar system though the friendly chat while my engineer worked as he diagnosed the problem and figured out a fix procedure that I've not found anywhere else - amazing . If you need solar system repairs - especially if you like me have been left high and dry by GivEnergy, I cannot recommend this company enough. Give them a call.

I sent a message on their website regarding a problem I have on my Givenergy system. Although not supplied by Ronald, I thought it was worth an email. Within the hour on a Saturday, he phoned and we discussed the problem. He logged in remotely and gave excellent advice. I'm too far away for his on-site help but he did diagnose the problem and was happy also to chat through my thoughts about an upcoming solar/battery install I'm planning. Great bloke.... if only he was nearer!

STRAIGHT ANSWERS
The short version

The four things every GivEnergy owner needs to know

If you only read one section of this page, read this. The rest is detail.

Cloud
The GivEnergy cloud has shut down

Portal, app, third-party API — all stopped. With GivEnergy Software Ltd in administration, the cloud is not coming back in its previous form.

Hardware
Your inverter and battery still work

They run on local firmware. Solar charging, battery discharge, EPS backup, BMS safety — all of it still works, exactly as before, with zero cloud connection.

Solution
Sentinel replaces the cloud locally

Free local-monitoring app from the team behind STS. Talks to your inverter over modbus. Live values, schedules, fault flags. sentinel.solar — install in fifteen minutes.

Support
STS connects over the same modbus path

Even with the GivEnergy cloud entirely gone, STS engineers can diagnose, configure and fix your system remotely. Free remote diagnostic, no fix no fee.

STILL WORKING
Hardware

What your GivEnergy system still does without any cloud

The GivEnergy hardware is not a cloud device. Cloud closure does not stop any of these — they run on local firmware and the inverter's own clock.

Free · Local
Solar charging — generates as normal

Panels generate, inverter converts, battery charges from solar surplus. Pure local logic — no cloud signal required to decide when to charge from PV.

Free · Local
Battery discharge to house load

When the house draws power and there is no solar, the battery discharges. Local feedback loop via the CT clamp on your incoming meter — entirely cloud-independent.

Free · Local
EPS — power-cut backup

On a grid outage the inverter switches to EPS mode and supplies the EPS sub-circuit from the battery. Hard-wired logic — works whether or not the cloud ever existed.

Free · Local
Stored charge / discharge schedules

Any charge window you previously set (e.g. 02:30–05:30 cheap-rate grid charge) runs from the inverter's internal clock. Already-saved schedules continue indefinitely.

Free · Local
BMS safety + cell balancing

The battery management system monitors cells, temperatures and balancing on-board. It will safely shut the battery down if anything goes wrong — cloud or no cloud.

With Sentinel
Live monitoring + new schedule changes

Install Sentinel and you get monitoring, scheduling, and engineer access back — all over local modbus.

WHAT YOU LOST WHEN THE CLOUD CLOSED
Replaced by Sentinel

The features the GivEnergy cloud used to provide — and how Sentinel restores them

Everything the GivEnergy cloud did that genuinely mattered, Sentinel does locally. Below is the one-to-one mapping.

Restored
Remote monitoring

Cloud: gone. Sentinel: live values, SOC tracking, generation/consumption history — accessible from any device on your home network.

Restored
Historical data + graphs

Cloud: gone. Sentinel: logs locally and shows generation, consumption and battery history from the moment you install it. No paid tier required.

Restored
Automation + scheduling

Cloud: gone. Sentinel: full schedule editor, charge-window control, mode-switching — all over local modbus, no cloud round-trip.

Partial
Third-party API (Octopus, Home Assistant)

Cloud: gone. Sentinel: exposes a local API for integration tools. Smart-tariff price-following requires Predbat (see below) for full agile-tariff optimisation.

Replaced
Manufacturer technical support

Cloud: gone. STS provides independent diagnostic + repair support over Sentinel's modbus path. Same coverage, no cloud needed.

Warranty claims against GivEnergy Ltd

No further hardware warranties will be honoured by GivEnergy Ltd. Alternative routes (installer cover, Section 75, MCS Consumer Code) may still apply — see warranty and installer-gone-bust.

INSTALL SENTINEL — FIFTEEN MINUTES
Step by step

How to get back online — without the GivEnergy cloud

Sentinel is the path everyone should take first. Free, fast, no commitment. From the day GivEnergy's cloud closed to live local monitoring takes about fifteen minutes.

Visit
Go to sentinel.solar

Open sentinel.solar and download the installer for your platform — Mac, Windows, Linux, Raspberry Pi, or NAS. Sentinel is small and runs in the background.

Open sentinel.solar
Install
Run the installer

Standard install — no GivEnergy account required, no signup. Sentinel asks for permission to scan your home network for your inverter (modbus discovery happens automatically).

Connect
Sentinel finds your inverter

Sentinel auto-discovers your GivEnergy hardware on the local network. You confirm and you are live — live values, schedules, fault flags, all back in one place.

WHEN STS COMES IN
Engineer support

What STS does that Sentinel alone cannot

Sentinel restores monitoring. STS restores the engineering brain. Both run over the same modbus channel — install Sentinel first, then book us when something is broken.

Free
Free remote diagnostic

We connect over Sentinel's modbus path, read live values, settings, fault history. We tell you what is wrong, what to do, and the cost (if any) — before you commit.

Book a diagnostic
Fix
Remote fix where possible

Many faults are configuration, schedule, or firmware — fixable in the same diagnostic session. We charge a small remote-fix fee only if we resolve the fault. No fix, no fee.

On-site
On-site visit when hardware needs hands

Genuine hardware faults need a site visit. We quote in writing first — no surprises. Independent of all installers, work covered by our own engineering reports.

Ongoing
Solar Health Plan — independent ongoing cover

From £10/month. An engineer watching your system, catching faults early, on-call when needed. Particularly worth having now manufacturer support has gone.

GOING FURTHER
Power-user options

For owners who want more than Sentinel covers

Sentinel is the right answer for the vast majority of owners. If you fall into a specific power-user category, here are the dedicated alternatives.

In-home display
Predbat — dedicated in-home display + agile-tariff optimisation

Predbat is a separate hardware product — an in-home display that ties into your inverter and runs full agile-tariff optimisation (Octopus Agile, Flux, daily price-following). If you want a dedicated screen in the kitchen and active price-following without setting up Home Assistant, Predbat is the polished option. Sentinel covers monitoring + scheduling; Predbat layers agile-tariff intelligence on top.

DIY
Home Assistant + open-source integrations

If you already run Home Assistant or are happy to, several open-source projects expose GivEnergy hardware over local protocols and let you build any monitoring or automation you want. More work to set up than Sentinel or Predbat — but free, infinitely customisable, and a good fit for serious tinkerers.

FAQ

GivEnergy cloud closure — frequently asked questions

Yes. With GivEnergy Software Ltd in administration, the cloud, portal and mobile app are no longer running. The login screen does not return data, scheduled changes do not save, and third-party integrations (Octopus, Home Assistant via the GivEnergy API) have stopped working. The cloud is not coming back in its previous form — administration of a software company that has ceased trading typically ends in asset sale or wind-up, not restoration.
Yes. Your inverter and battery run on local firmware. They charge from solar, discharge to your house load, run EPS backup on a power cut, and execute any locally-stored charge schedule — all without any cloud connection. What you have lost is remote monitoring, historical data beyond the local buffer, automation, smart-tariff API integration and any setting you used to change via the app or portal. Install Sentinel and you get monitoring, scheduling and engineer access back, free.
Yes. The solar PV side of the system has no cloud dependency at all. The panels generate, the inverter converts, and the inverter decides on local logic when to charge the battery and when to push to the house or to grid export. None of this stopped when the cloud went dark. If your generation actually drops or stops, that is a hardware-level fault — see our solar not generating diagnostic for the causes that have nothing to do with the cloud.
Sentinel is a free local-first monitoring app built by the same team behind STS. It runs on your home network and talks to your GivEnergy inverter directly over modbus — the low-level industrial protocol the inverter speaks regardless of any cloud. You get live values, charge schedules, fault flags, state-of-charge tracking, and an STS engineer one click away if anything needs fixing. No subscription, no lock-in, no GivEnergy account required. Install it at sentinel.solar.
Yes. Free to install, free to use, no subscription, no premium tier, no upsell. Sentinel runs locally on your network — there are no servers for us to pay for. It exists because owners of working hardware should not be punished when a manufacturer fails. The commercial logic for us: Sentinel users who have a real fault book STS for diagnostics + repair, where we charge for the engineering. The monitoring stays free.
Visit sentinel.solar, follow the install steps for your platform (Mac, Windows, Raspberry Pi, NAS), and Sentinel will discover your GivEnergy inverter on your local network automatically. Setup takes about fifteen minutes. You will need to know your inverter is connected to the same network as the device you run Sentinel on. If you have trouble, contact STS and an engineer will walk you through it.
Yes. We connect to your inverter over the same modbus path Sentinel uses. No GivEnergy portal access required. This is an unusual capability in the UK market — most diagnostic services depend entirely on the manufacturer's cloud. We do not. Install Sentinel first, then book a free remote diagnostic. We read live values, configure settings, and run a full fault-finding sequence with no cloud in the loop.
The GivEnergy cloud API that smart-tariff integrations used has stopped responding. Cloud-side optimisation routines (Intelligent Octopus Go scheduling, Agile-tariff price-following) no longer trigger automatically. Sentinel manages charge windows locally — so your battery still grid-charges on the cheap-rate window you have set. For owners who want full agile-tariff optimisation that follows daily price changes, see the Predbat in-home display option lower down this page.
The administrator of GivEnergy Ltd has publicly stated no further hardware warranties will be honoured by GivEnergy Ltd. Routes that may still produce a result: installer workmanship cover, insurance-backed guarantee (IBG), Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act if you paid by credit card, MCS Consumer Code complaints if the install was MCS-certified. See our warranty page for the full picture. If your original installer is also gone, our installer-gone-bust hub covers the workmanship-cover + IBG + Section 75 routes step-by-step.
STS can source compatible replacement components from independent suppliers — refurbished GivEnergy units and equivalent third-party hardware where the original is no longer available. We can also fit and commission non-GivEnergy alternatives if a full system replacement is the right call. Most failures are repairable rather than replaceable, which we will confirm with the free remote diagnostic before any cost is committed.
Unknown. Administrators can sell a company as a going concern, sell assets piecemeal, or wind it up entirely. Industry coverage notes interest from various parties, but no buyer has been confirmed. Even if a buyer eventually restores manufacturer support, Sentinel keeps working — local control is local control. You lose nothing by installing it now, and gain everything if the cloud never returns.
Almost certainly not. The hardware works for years to come. Replacing a working battery and inverter costs £8,000–£15,000+ in equipment plus install — for what is mostly an emotional response to bad news. Sentinel + STS keeps you covered for monitoring, scheduling, and diagnostics. The legitimate reasons to switch are: a real fault that cannot be repaired, a feature you cannot live without and cannot recreate, or a planned upgrade you were going to do anyway. For everyone else: install Sentinel and stay put.
Predbat is a separate in-home display product — a dedicated piece of hardware that ties into the inverter over local protocols and runs agile-tariff optimisation directly. Sentinel is a monitoring + scheduling app you install on a device you already own (laptop, Raspberry Pi, NAS). For most owners, Sentinel covers what is needed. For owners who want a dedicated display in the kitchen and active agile-tariff price-following without setup, Predbat is the more polished option.
No fix, no fee
